MORE ABOUT US
Reliable Tutoring Service
The Orton-Gillingham Approach to literacy instruction was developed in the early-20th century by Samuel Orton, an American neuro-psychiatrist and pathologist and Anna Gillingham, a teacher and psychologist. The methodology is language-based, multisensory, structured, sequential, cumulative, cognitive, and flexible.

Alison is a certified Orton-Gillingham Dyslexia Therapist with over twenty years of experience as a classroom teacher and literacy education trainer and mentor. Alison evaluates each student individually using Orton-Gillingham assessment tools and observations to create lesson plans that are unique to each student’s strengths, interests, levels, and challenges. Each one-hour tutoring session is planned exclusively for the individual student.
Lesson plans are language-based, multisensory, and engaging. Each session has space for review, practice, and new learning. Proven strategies that strengthen short-term, long-term, and working memory are incorporated into each lesson. Alison's experience as a teacher, literacy instructor, and Orton-Gillingham tutor have helped students with dyslexia as well as other specific learning challenges.

In addition to her experience as a literacy teacher, Alison is also a writing coach. She implemented a Writer's Workshop program into her daily literacy block as a classroom teacher, and she was a literacy trainer, teaching creative and expository writing strategies to teachers throughout the state of California. Alison is also a children's book author and member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.
